春の展覧会の最終の作品です。
仏涅槃の際の仏さまです。
手には
説法印の印の形をしています。
お釈迦様が説法をされている姿をあらわしたもので
別名では、「転法輪印」とも呼ばれていて、
真理を説くという意味が込められています。
最期の最期までお釈迦様は説法されていたと
気持ちを込めて制作しました。
私の中のお釈迦様は
亡くなられた、
元真宗大谷派教学研究所所長の児玉暁洋先生でした。
私は先生が大好きで
月一回の【満天星舎】という
勉強会に参加させていただいて
いたのですが
勉強会が無い日も先生の貴重な仏教のお話を
聴かせていただくために
よく先生のマンションに伺っていました。
普通に大好きな児玉先生のお宅に通っていた毎日…
突然【満天星舎】の同朋から
《先生危篤！急いで来てください》と
突然、スマートフォンにメッセージが入り
先生は亡くなりました。
あまりにものことで、
本当に私が壊れてしまうのではないくらい、泣きました。
泣き続けました。
所属していた大谷大学真宗学科の先生たちが
支えてくれて、大変でしたが立ち直れました。
児玉暁洋先生は自分がなくなることで
仏陀の教えをまた生きることを教えてくれました。
そんな意味のある作品です。

This is the final piece for the spring exhibition.
It depicts the Buddha at the moment of his nirvana.
In his hand is
the Dharma Wheel Mudra,
representing the Buddha delivering his teachings.
Also known as the “Dharma Wheel Turning Mudra,”
it embodies the meaning of expounding the truth.
I created this piece with deep feeling,
knowing that the Buddha continued teaching until his very last moment.
The Buddha within me
was the late
Professor Akihiro Kodama, former Director of the Otani School of Buddhism Teaching Research Institute.
I adored my professor
and participated in his monthly study group,
[Mantenbosha].
Even on days without study sessions,
I often visited his apartment
to hear his invaluable Buddhist teachings.
Those ordinary days visiting my beloved Professor Kodama's home...
Suddenly, a message appeared on my smartphone from a fellow member of Mantenbosha:
“Professor is critically ill! Please come quickly!”
Professor passed away.
It was so overwhelming,
I cried as if I might break apart.
I cried continuously.
The professors from the Shin Buddhism Department at Otani University, where I belonged,
supported me. It was difficult, but I recovered.
Professor Kodama Akihiro taught me, through his own passing,
that the Buddha's teachings live on.
This work holds that profound meaning.
